31 DEC 2021
On the last afternoon of 2021, we went to see the fairy house at Hobsonville. The little sprites under the tree opened the door to their storybook cottage for us. At the playground We slid joyfully down the penguin’s belly, rode along the seaside boardwalk with the ocean breeze gently brushing past.
On the last evening of 2021, we played tennis under a sky full of stars. Our rally stretched to ten shots. Daniel was so sweet and thoughtful, always claped and cheered for my good shot, and Aviel kept running as if he could never get tired.
On the last night of 2021, we watched 'Return of the Jedi' for the family movie night, the final chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy from the seventies. The father finally awakened from darkness, and the brave rebels triumphed over the Empire. At the end - at the very end of the story, everyone celebrated around the fire, dancing and singing. Leia and Han shared a kiss, while Luke smiled quietly, looking toward the distance where Obi-Wan, Master Yoda, and the spirit of his father stood.
As they said in Don’t Look Up:
“We really did have everything, didn’t we?”
Happy New Year!
